Tell your Story

Being a carer, in our opinion, is one of the most rewarding careers you can do. Although it can be hard work, the overall feeling of being able to help individuals live their life to the fullest is a feeling unmatched by anything else. When carers see a smile on a clients face, that comes from the person centered approach, we gain a feeling of worth.

Homecare is a demanding job, some days it can feel overwhelming, but without hardwork, there can be no reward. At SNE, we care for a range of different people from all walks of life and different backgrounds. As we get to spend more time with our clients, our carers learn more about them, spreading their own stories and experiences that have shaped each person into the amazing characters they are. This is a benefit for not only our clients who may be in need of companionship, but our carers also gain a lot from it too, whether that is getting advice, having someone to talk to, or just having a well needed conversation after a long day or week.

One carer wrote, ‘Caring for other people makes me feel valued. I have wonderful relationships with my clients. While I am carrying out my tasks, we’re laughing and chatting and having a great time. They enjoy telling me their stories, sometimes from years ago and I get pleasure from listening to them.’ This statement embodies the highs of being a carer in a beautiful, retrospective way and in turn, shows that caring is not solely for the client, but that actually a client is just as important to the carer.

Another carer wrote, ‘Going and visiting the clients and listening to the stories of their life’ was their favourite part of caring. This is a common mindset for not only carers, but anybody. As people, we love hearing the stories that shape people, whether that be to take advice from their lives or simply because the stories are interesting, we are hearing pictures being painted by words. In a raw, wonderful way that you don’t quite get anywhere else.

Everybody deserves their story to live on. Everybody deserves to be able to tell their story. We at SNE, help make that happen.
